"One of the most interesting experiences here has been that I tend to enjoy the difficult classes more. The first 2 or 3 lectures for my probability class under Dr. Joe Watkins depicted a quite conceptually challenging course ahead. However, his genius way of incorporating humor during lectures made me push the hardest for this class, including Wednesday all-nighters trying to learn how to type in Latex. My experience with the High Dimensional Analysis and Statistics classes this term is similar. MEZCOPH’s structuring of these important courses has helped foster a deeper interest in biostatistics, which will continue to grow during my time here."

Why choose public health/What’s awesome about Public Health? Growing up among several medical professionals as my immediate family members, I have witnessed first-hand the time and dedication they contribute to society. In my own capacity as a biostatistician, I wish to apply my skills to aid in the better understanding of diseases and treatments.
Why choose the University of Arizona/MEZCOPH: I chose to apply to MEZCOPH due to the diverse portfolio of the epidemiology and biostatistics faculty. Visiting Tucson in March 2019for Admitted Students’ Week helped solidify my choice, since it is a town with very less high rise and surrounded with lots of natural landscape.
Public Health interests: Biostatistics, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Epidemiology, Genetics
Fun fact about you and/or your interests/hobbies outside of school: I like singing and experimenting with musical instruments, particularly bowed strings. These days getting used to being a dog dad to a handsome Labrador pup.
One piece of advice for future students: Spend the first few weeks getting to know your cohort. This is especially helpful when you are working as a TA/RA and for group study sessions.
